waterpolo

Water polo can be fun if played using all the equipment. Equipment used for playing water polo are of two types. There are some equipment that are required for protection of the players, while there are some that are required to play the game.

Some of the water polo equipment are listed underneath:

Ball: Initially the water polo ball was an inflated animal bladder usually made up of pig’s bladder. Seeing its ineffectiveness for long spats, it was replaced with partially inflated soccer balls, which was replaced with a cotton bladder to provide a better handling. Now the ball is made with nylon bladder and rubber fabric offering an easier grip. It weighs between 14 and 16 ounces but the size varies for men and women.

Caps: Apart from protecting the players’ heads, caps are used to recognize the different team players. One team wears white caps, while the other team wears blue or any other dark colored caps. Usually the home team white caps and the visiting team wears dark colored caps. The goalies of both teams wear red caps. These caps are fitted with special ear protectors.

Swimwear: Swimwear is rather a necessity rather than an equipment for playing a game of water polo. One can’t play water polo in any other outfit, so the only option left is a swimwear. Men water polo players wear swim briefs. On the other hand the female water polo players prefer wearing one-piece swimsuits.

Goals: This one is the second most important equipment to play a game of water polo, the first being the ball. Since there are two teams, two goals are required in water polo. These goals are either placed on the side of the pool or in the pool using special floaters. Sports shops are full with a range of goals to choose from for water polo.
